Metascintillators: New Results for TOF-PET Applications

We report on the progress a first generation of realistic size metascintillators for time-of-flight PET. These heterostructures combine dense LYSO or BGO plates, interleaved with fast scintillator layers producing bunch prompt photons from energy leakage recoil photoelectric electron. From Geant4 simulation sharing distribution between and 42 LYSO-based BGO-based configurations, detailed study timing performance has been performed selection most promising 12 14 metascintillators. A Monte Carlo was to extrapolate direct measurements metascintillator components, detector time resolution (DTR), sensitivity basis simulated amount scintillator. An analytic algorithm then applied determine an equivalent coincidence (CTR) random association DTR distributions two metapixels in coincidence. This CTR is calculated order obtain same variance reconstructed image as combination 2 metapixels. Preliminary results confirm that these simple still nonoptimized 150 ps 140 can be obtained.
